What are dental implants?
Dental Implants are the single-most effective and successful dental replacement for a missing tooth. An implant is a titanium anchor that allows Dr. Hogan to replace a missing tooth with a crown that looks like a natural tooth. Contrary to some people’s perception, the procedure is minimally invasive, relatively painless and simple to accomplish.
Are Dental Implants the Right Choice for Tooth Replacement?
Your teeth were designed to last a lifetime, but sometimes they don’t! Replacing missing teeth is important to your general health and to the health of your other teeth. Not only do you lose chewing ability when a tooth is lost, but unreplaced teeth can cause more teeth to be lost, tipped or crowded and create additional problems. Also, there are the obvious problems of poor appearance and loss of self-esteem caused by one or more missing teeth. Dental implants should be your first choice to replace a failing or missing tooth. Replacement of lost teeth with dental implants has been used for more than 50 years. Treatment with dental implants is more predictable than bridges, partial dentures or full dentures. Statistically, it is the most successful treatment for replacement of missing teeth.
Am I a candidate for implants?
Implant patients can be of any age and a there are very few medical reasons why a patient should not consider dental implants. In most patients, dental implants are the first choice for anyone missing one or more teeth due to injury, disease or decay. They are especially practical for patients who can no longer wear removable dentures or for patients who desire better. Dr. Hogan can determine if you are a candidate for dental implants after an examination and careful evaluation of your dental and medical history.
Do I have enough bone?
It is important for a patient to have enough bone to support the implant. If you do not have enough bone, there are safe and effective ways to correct bone deficiency. Dr. Hogan can examine your oral health and advise you if additional procedures may be needed before the implants are placed.
How long does treatment take?
Treatment time can vary greatly depending on your individual needs. Usually the process takes 3-6 months, however some cases may take up to 12 months.
